This morning my husband and I went for a hike in the woods by our house to the Indian Mounds. A few years ago a mining company wanted to dig for coal in these woods, but my husband stopped them from digging because he found what appeared to be Indian burial grounds right where they were planning on digging! After an investigation of the mound it was decided that they were indeed burial grounds. Several small mounds were also found in the same area.
It was a beautiful hike as the trees are starting to turn into their fall colors. We did not take Sadie with us this time as there are alot of sticky burs along the path and she would have gotten into them and been covered.
Hi Jan,
ReplyDeleteStumbled across your blog. Thanks for the plug in to mine in your blog roll.
This posting on the Indian Mounds is great. I'm glad your husband was able to help preserve the area...it should remain untouched. Really interesting stuff!
FYI - I'll be stopping by this blog now that I know it is here. If you don't mind, I'll list it on my site.`
Karl
I don't mind at all, thanks! I enjoy your blog too. I'm glad you enjoyed mine.
ReplyDeleteThe mound in your woods looks like a stone mound. There are only a few of those left in Ohio. Here is post of some of the largest mounds that are still visible in Ohio. http://moundbuilder.blogspot.com/p/27-largest-burial-mounds-in-ohio.html
