Hiking Blackhand Gorge

Yesterday I went hiking at Blackhand Gorge with my daughter and her 2 sons. What a beautiful day it was! Even though the peak of the fall leaves have passed and they're starting to fall from the trees, it was still fun hiking with them. The boys enjoy hiking just as much as we do.

I was going to take Sadie (my dog) with us, but I decided not too. It was a good thing because we couldn't take her through the woods.

Fall Is Upon Us!

Fall is definitely upon us as the trees are changing to their beautiful colors and the air is getting cooler. Old man winter will be here before we know it!

Hiking With My Grandson

Last week my grandson and I went for another hike in the woods by our house. He and his younger brother love being in the woods and exploring everything they can. Oh to be young and so adventurous again! I remember my younger brother and I spent a lot of time in our woods exploring when we were growing up.

The monument that Eric is standing on is a short story of how our recreation area was developed.

Enjoy the slide show!

Indian Mounds

This morning my husband and I went for a hike in the woods by our house to the Indian Mounds. A few years ago a mining company wanted to dig for coal in these woods, but my husband stopped them from digging because he found what appeared to be Indian burial grounds right where they were planning on digging! After an investigation of the mound it was decided that they were indeed burial grounds. Several small mounds were also found in the same area.

It was a beautiful hike as the trees are starting to turn into their fall colors. We did not take Sadie with us this time as there are alot of sticky burs along the path and she would have gotten into them and been covered.

Our hike in the woods.

Sunday my oldest grandson, (he is 5 yrs. old) & I went for a hike in the woods near my house. It was really too hot, but we didn't care. My grandson was having so much fun with Sadie & picking up rocks & big sticks. He likes to throw stones in the streams where ever he can & see how big of a splash he can make. He's a typical boy!! I remember my son doing the same thing at that age.

Tomorrow evening I want to hike to the Indian mounds we have in the same woods. There are several small mounds & one large one. I will post some pictures of them. Since I am of Indian decent it is amazing to me to see these mounds & try to imagine what their life must have been like.

New Life

Last Thursday I was sitting out on our deck when a pretty little butterfly (or moth) landed on my leg & just sat there. My first thought was how they represent "new life", then on Friday our son told us that his wife was pregnant with their second child! What a coincidence that was, there is a new life in the making!! It was like that little butterfly was trying to tell me something while sitting on my leg.

Rain, Rain, go away!

Well, between the heat, rain, and my surgery, I have not been hiking yet this summer! As soon as it cools down and I'm feeling better, I plan on getting out and hiking some of the many trails in Ohio and taking some pictures, (I can't wait)! I know my Mini Schnauzer (Sadie) can't wait. Since my surgery she's either in my lap or laying on my feet almost constantly!

This fall should produce some spectacular photos if mother nature co-operates. We live almost in the heart of  Amish country, and the hillsides are just full of color. I'll post some pictures.
